Remove the background from image

Step by step.

Step-by-step guide on how to remove the background from an image using GIMP

Open GIMP software on your computer. Go to the "File" menu and select "Open" to open the image you want to work with. In the Layers panel, right-click on the Background layer and select "Add Alpha Channel." This will allow transparency in your image.

Select the "Fuzzy Select Tool" from the Toolbox (it looks like a magic wand).

Adjust the tool's settings in the Tool Options according to your needs, such as threshold and feathering.

Click on an area of the background that you want to remove. The tool will automatically select contiguous areas based on similarity.

Press the "Delete" key or go to Edit > Clear to remove the selected background area. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for other parts of the background that you want to remove.

If there are areas that were not accurately selected or removed, use other selection tools like Free Select or Paths Tool for more precise selections.

Zoom in and refine your selection by manually adding or subtracting areas using selection tools mentioned above.

Once you have removed all desired parts of the background, you can save your image with transparency intact by going to File > Export As and choosing a file format that supports transparency, such as PNG.
